The Advantages of Being an IRTA Member:

We want to remind you of the benefits of IRTA. As members of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association (IRTA), you are part of a unique organization dedicated solely to protecting the retirement benefits of retired teachers. Here is a summary of the significant advantages IRTA offers:

Legislative Review: IRTA monitors all legislation introduced by the IllinoisGeneral Assembly that could affect retired teachers' benefits.

Member Alerts: We keep our members informed and educated about crucial legislative debates.

Lobbying Presence: IRTA represents your interests at the Illinois State Capitol, ensuring your voice is heard on issues impacting retirement benefits.

Legal Advocacy: IRTA takes legal action when necessary to combat harmful legislation.

Legal Successes:

-2013 Pension Protection: IRTA successfully challenged the 2013 law aimed at reducing the 3% compounded annual raise for retired teachers. The Illinois Supreme Court ruled in favor of IRTA, upholding the constitutional protection of teacher pensions.

- 2023 Healthcare Funding: IRTA fought against budget cuts proposed by the Department of Central Management Services (CMS) that threatened our healthcare programs. We secured a favorable settlement ensuring continued funding and stability of benefits through 2028.

For just $3.50 a month, IRTA members enjoy these protections and more. Encourage your fellow retired educators to join us and benefit from our steadfast advocacy.
